For the first time in its 6 year history, Twitter is offering users the chance to download their entire archived tweet history in an html file.
Twitter’s 500 million users will be able to browse through past tweets much more efficiently than on Twitter’s own site which only provides limited access to users tweet history.
The new archive is to contain information such as where and when the tweets were made, however although as the archive only contains your own personal tweets their relevance may be limited.
Twitter has grown from its humble beginnings to become one of the most frequently used social media sites. Hence why many are confused as to how effective and how frequent this archive service will be.
With users posting millions of tweets a day, it is assumed that the archive will be severely outdated if it is updated every month. However, the move is an important one in social media history.
Despite this being the first archive offered by Twitter, the US Library of Congress has been known to be documenting all tweets over the last few years in files that cannot be publicly accessed electronically.
